About the Stratosoft software community ...

So, who are we ? ...

Well ... Stratosoft was born back in 1999 in the hands of a mildly, (some might say eternally !) disgruntled airline pilot who was trying to find a pilot logbook software program for his personal computer. He searched and then he searched a little bit more and he even found some half-respectable programs but they were so dull and featureless. What could be done in this situation ? ... well, drawing on knowledge from a previous existence, he set about writing his own pilot logbook software and FlightLog Professional (or FlightLog 2000 Professional as it was known in 1999) was created.

From FlightLog 2000 Professional version 1 (emphasising the millennium by using '2000' seemed like a good idea in 1999 !), we have now arrived at FlightLog Professional version 6 and this is Stratosoft's FREE 'flagship' software program. The Stratosoft website was developed in early 2006 from its predecessor, www.barrettsoft.com (1999 - 2006) and has now become the www (worldwide window !) for Stratosoft software.

Morse Code Master, an audio-visual morse code training program and the FREE sibling software to FlightLog Professional for private & recreational pilots, that is FlightLog Recreational, have since been added along with freeware utilities to augment the completely FREE FlightLog Professional & FlightLog Recreational pilot logbook software ... not a huge portfolio by any stretch of the imagination but the aim is to provide high quality, very capable, useful and practical software solutions ... for you ... all that is asked for in return is your support.

That pilot mentioned at the beginning was of course the author, a.k.a. Pete Barrett. Nowadays there are a few more good folk assisting in the development of Stratosoft software, not in the least the many pilots worldwide who make use of Stratosoft software on a daily basis and provide such valuable feedback to assist in its continued development. It's worth bearing in mind though that Stratosoft is operated essentially as a community, not as a profit making enterprise. Although there are charges for features which enhance some of the software, these only cover overheads (principally advertising) and although several thousand hours of development time have accrued, it is all unremunerated ! This is why your support is so important and it can be in the form of simply contributing to help & advice for others who perhaps know less than you do in the Stratosoft FORUMS to personalizing your software or making a monetary DONATION to keep it all going. Being a community, Stratosoft does not have that 'raw business ethic' which dictates that if it is not profitable, it is shutdown. There is a distinct advantage in the community philosophy from the software user's point of view because it means you have the support of like-minded people around you and the community is always likely to be here ... but realistically only if you offer your support too ... yes, that does mean you !. If on occasion, you don't hear back from us quite as quickly as you might like to, then just remember we could well be occupied at that time simply earning our living or even taking a well earned break ... the same as anyone else. The bottom line is, that we will always get back to you.

If you would like to contact Stratosoft directly, then please feel free to do so via the contact page. Alternatively just search / post directly in the Stratosoft FORUMS.

Finally just for interest, below is a small map to indicate the geographical location of Stratosoft but of course, given our modern communications age and the fact that you are reading this wherever you are ... well, we can be anywhere !

  best wishes always
